Following Boris Johnson’s apology in the House of Commons over the latest lockdown party revelation at Downing Street, John Caudwell discussed the implications for the Conservative Party, which he donated half a million pounds to at the 2019 General Election, with Jeremy Kyle on Talk Radio.
If the civil servant investigation into Downing Street breaches of Covid restrictions finds that the Prime Minister lied in the House of Commons, “then he has to go”, said John.
In a lengthy interview on Kyle’s Drivetime programme, Caudwell expressed his frustration with the succession of sleaze, corruption and rule-breaking allegations that continue to distract from what should be the Government’s priorities. “I find it a travesty,” John said.
He continued:
“The Tories gained such an enormous majority in the last election, and an enormous majority gives a party the ability to make really significant beneficial changes whereas a minority situation is always dreadful. So the Tories have had a phenomenal opportunity to really make changes in Britain that are positive for the general population. And now it’s all been frittered away by silly mistakes or worse.
“The Owen Paterson affair was disgusting, and Boris should have come out straight away and said he’s got to go. I don’t know why we don’t enjoy that clear moral leadership and that conviction.”
