With Tory leadership contenders reduced to three – Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss and Penny Mordaunt – philanthropist, business leader, Phones 4U founder and previous party donor John Caudwell shared his thoughts on the race with Andrew Marr on LBC.
“I’m finding it hugely depressing,” said Caudwell, who has reservations about all of the remaining candidates and, in particular, their lack of business experience and understanding.
“My only hope on all this is that whoever comes through as our next prime minister will prove me wrong.”
Marr also quizzed John on his views on tax cutting. Caudwell said that, while the UK should cut taxes in order to attract inward investment, it must be done in conjunction with improving productivity and borrowing to invest.
