BBC Radio Stoke: ‘I will always think of Staffordshire as home’

To tie in with the publication of his much-anticipated autobiography, business leader, philanthropist, founder of Phones 4U and Stoke-on-Trent native John Caudwell gave an extensive interview with BBC Radio Stoke.

Published by Mirror Books, Love, Pain & Money: The Making of a Billionaire was released this month on Caudwell’s 70th birthday.

In a wide-ranging half-hour discussion with BBC Radio Stoke presenter Stuart George, Caudwell recalled his working-class roots and explained why he always thinks of his childhood in black and white.

Though he now travels extensively and owns properties in London, Monaco and around the world, the main residence for Caudwell, his partner, the former Olympic cyclist Modesta Vzesniauskaite, and their young children, is in Staffordshire. He said he remains “very firmly rooted” in the area.

“I [still] live here. It’s where my heart is. I always think of it as home.”

Other topics covered include the transformation of Stoke-on-Trent, Caudwell’s late mother Beryl, bullying, the best thing about having money, the entrepreneurial mindset, and how to measure success.
