BBC Midlands: ‘My childhood was a constant fight for survival’

To tie in with the publication of his much-anticipated autobiography, business leader, philanthropist and founder of Phones 4U John Caudwell spoke to BBC Midlands at his Grade I-listed home in Staffordshire, not far from where he grew up in a working-class home in Stoke-on-Trent.

Speaking to reporter Liz Copper, Caudwell recalled some of the challenges he faced in his childhood.

“Bullying was always a big part of my life [as a child]. It was a constant fight for survival. Life was rough.”

Love, Pain & Money: The Making of a Billionaire is published by Mirror Books. All proceeds are donated to the charity Caudwell Children, which helps disabled children and their families.
