Cycle Monte Carlo goes ahead after John Caudwell’s accident

A month before the sixth annual Cycle Monte Carlo, held in aid of Caudwell Children on Friday 24 September 2021, patron John Caudwell suffered a terrible cycling accident while on holiday in Italy, sustaining 11 broken bones and a punctured lung and requiring lengthy hospitalisation and multiple surgeries.

Still continuing his recovery, John was disappointed not to be able to take part in this year’s race. However, he still raised over £50,000 via JustGiving with supporters sponsoring him on a ‘broken-bone basis’. And he and his six-month-old son William cheered on the cyclists, who were led on the day by John’s partner and event organiser, former Olympic cyclist Modesta Vzesniauskaite.
