As Liz Truss enters Downing Street, philanthropist, business leader and Phones 4U founder John Caudwell talked to Annita McVeigh on BBC News about what he’d like to see in the first few days from the new Prime Minister.
First on the agenda: addressing the energy crisis, including getting urgent support to the most vulnerable citizens and most energy-dependent businesses.
As he advised during the pandemic lockdowns, John said that nobody should be substantially worse off at the end of the energy crisis.
However, he noted that both the pandemic response and support for Ukraine must be paid for, either through reduced living standards now or mortgaging the future for our children and grandchildren.
