Business leader, philanthropist and Stoke-on-Trent native John Caudwell spoke to BBC Midlands’ Liz Copper about his involvement with a campaign to rescue a community support centre that helps thousands of Staffordshire veterans.
Tri Services & Veterans Support Centre, which has helped more than 10,000 people and has provided around 250,000 meals via its food bank, is faced with being thrown out of its premises following Staffordshire County Council’s decision to sell the building.
The veteran-led charity, located in Hassell Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, needs to raise £120,000 to buy the building and secure its future. John Caudwell has stepped in to help raise awareness and has pledged to match all donations from the public.
Caudwell told BBC Midlands Today:
“The veterans are people who have obviously dedicated their lives to protecting ours. For them to come out of the forces and then be in a devastating situation, for whatever reason, is not acceptable.”
