BBC Newsnight: ‘It’s worrying for big corporations with operations in Russia’

As the war in Ukraine entered its third week, business leader, philanthropist and Phones 4U founder John Caudwell joined a panel of experts on BBC Newsnight to discuss the global economic fallout resulting from the turmoil.

Speaking to presenter Mark Urban about how long the likes of Apple and others that have withdrawn may absent themselves from the Russian market, John said:

“If Putin is dethroned, the Kremlin cronies go and we get some degree of proper democracy there, Apple will be back there like a shot. That’s presuming the state hasn’t claimed their business as Putin is suggesting.

“So it’s very worrying times for some of the big corporations in terms of their operations in Russia. But it’s absolutely right and proper that they should shut those down temporarily to support the Ukrainian people.”
